Co-workers mentioned the riot over the weekend, and they said several hundred people were present and fights broke out.

No one had much details and knew why it happened, I did some search online and still not sure why all of a sudden we would have a riot in the Plaza area.

Is this going to be a new trend? Anyone was there during the riot?

Rioters know how to have a good time, although I don't think you could call what happened at the Plaza a riot. More like a flash mob.

Regardless, it is going to drive away the people who actually spend money at the Plaza. The same thing, only smaller, took place a week earlier. I heard nothing about that one prior to this. I know I am going to avoid any area in which I think I might have to run a gauntlet of young punks for no good reason.

I think people aren't looking at the big picture. The plaza isn't going anywhere, and its not gonna get worse. People are like "OMG its gonna end up like Bannister mall"

The plaza has apartments around it ranging from 500k-1 mil. It has multimillion dollar houses around it, this is a rich neighborhood, combined with the local businesses, the historic nature of the plaza and its importance to KC. Nothing is going to happen to it, its going anywhere, its not gonna turn ghetto, etc etc.... this isn't Bannister Mall where the residents can't afford to get people to back them on keeping it better... this is to rich of an area, and people have invested to much into it for anything to happen

Is it that hard to realize that a thread had already been started regarding this.

Bannister Mall didn't 'go anywhere' either, except into the ground. It probably would have gone somewhere, if it could have sprouted legs and started running, anywhere, away from the thugs.

Don't think for a minute that the clientele who frequent the Plaza can't find the same thing somewhere else, without the intimidating element. I don't remember ever hearing about anything as serious as this fracas at the Plaza occurring at Bannister Mall, yet it was enough to drive the paying customers away and the mall out of business.
