Actually, the minimum wage in Kansas is $7.25 an hour, which is the same as the federal minimum wage. The minimum wage in Kansas is the same as the minimum wage in the majority of states, including Minnesota, Missouri, Iowa, Wisconsin, Nebraska, New Jersey, and New York. There are only a few states with a minimum wage above the federal minimum. If you want to confuse people by saying that Kansas has a minimum wage "lower than any other state, except those that are the same", you would have to say the same thing for New York, New Jersey, Wisconsin, Minnesota, etc. But if your goal is to make people have a bad impression of Kansas, you are doing a good job by phrasing things like that.

The total tax burden rankings of states lands Kansas somewhere in the middle of the pack.

Consider that an "average" house in the Chicago burbs has taxes twice what I pay near Shawnee and my buddy in NY state pays 9k a year on a 2400sqft. cape cod.

The only people complaining about taxes in KS are those that have a limited point of reference....generally from a state like Texas which has one of the lowest state total tax burdens due to mineral rights etc.

I think we need to be very open about this to people moving in from other parts of the country as KS may be cheaper than what they are used to.

It also rains 365 days a year in Kansas except on days when it doesn't rain.

You can also check out realtor.com to get an idea of housing costs etc.

Personally, I love the shawnee area etc. Great public schools, lots to do in the metro area and a fairly low cost of living.

The only time weather is *bad* here is during the relatively short winter there is usually about 3-4 tough weeks and then in august it gets nasty hot for about 3-4 weeks typically. In general though, weather is pretty decent.
