School boards and administrators don't give a flip about students or teachers. If they did the would not have cancelled school multiple times over the last year.

She made some very good points. School districts are not the only ones that disrespect their employees, that force unfair policies, and expect goals to be met without providing the tools necessary to meet them.

What do "I" think?

I think we need more like her!

I have not been quite the teacher she was and still is, but I have been an instructor/tutor many times.
So I know the ropes, so to say, and it is not easy to do so.

My advice to her is to go into teaching at private schools or even those that are sponsored by a church!

Good for her!! Walking away from a passion is never easy and its quite evident that this teacher is passionate about teaching!

She gave me plenty to disagree with and completely lost any chance for my support when she said "respect should not have to be earned....it is owed to you".

"Silencing" her was a good move - especially for the students.

I was a teacher for years. The problem is that there are always people (primarily women) who are willing to do the job, especially at the elementary levels where the educational requirements are pretty basic. The school schedule is very conducive to having a good family life balance once you have children. Having all the holidays off plus summer months can't be found in any other career. Yes, the pay is low, and the respect is nil, but that won't change as long as there are people willing to teach.
