Hi all,

The title says it all - we're relocating and looking for the perfect place. We would prefer a rural community no further than an hour's drive to Leavenworth, that has its own high school. Any suggestions? Thank you!

Can you better define what you mean by “rural”? Population? WalMart? There’s a ton of possibilities. Does it have to be in Kansas? You could include a big chunk of NW Missouri and still be within an hour of Leavenworth.

Hi, thanks for the reply. By rural I mean a rather smallish population, no more than 10,000, and a less urban feeling. A place that would not feel urban and be livable for an outdoor enthusiast. Missouri would also be fine.

Go here and search on highschools if it doesn't paste over properly.

There are the platte highschools to the east, pleasant ridge to the west and lansing to the south among others.

Best of luck with your move.

Try Effingham, Kansas. Has its own high school . Atchison Coumty Community HS, right in town.

A bit further away, Highland and Troy KS both have smaller HS, Highland has a Comm. College. Troy is more like a proper town. It's a nice friendly part of the country.

How about Tonganoxie? Definitely a small town, but close enough to KCK or Lawrence when one needs bigger city services.

Farther away from LV (Google maps says about 50 minutes) is Wathena, KS. About 10 miles west of St. Joseph, MO.

Wathena does not have the rural atmosphere if a smalll town -- essentially a spill-
over exurb of St. Joseph.
