I am considering moving to Kansas, within 30 minutes of the hospital in Larned. I am used to living in big cities with easy access to Target, furniture stores & restaraunts and things. What is Great Bend like? Are there advantages to living there versus Larned or Dodge City? How easy is it to find an apartment or house to rent? Also, how many people under 35 live in these places (I am single and wanting at least some community interaction like hiking or book clubs, or social groups).

Thanks!

Great Bend is actually an average size town - There's a Walmart, a few grocery stores. Not much else. I lived there 1 year. It just wasn't for me.

YOu don't want to live in Dodge City - I just left there back and April. Unless you like the smell of cow dung and Meat packing plants. Jobs arent' really there either.

Housing is fairly cheap in Great Bend. I rented a nice 2 bedroom apartment for 450.00, but that was a few years ago.

Maybe someone else can chime in.

I grew up in Great Bend and it's not a bad place, but you'll have to get used to living in a small town. The good thing is that Wichita is just two hours away, Hutchinson and Salina are just an hour. There are great benefits to living in GB - low crime rate, easy, laid back lifestyle and inexpensive housing. There are young people there, you just have to look in the right places. There are a few bars around that you could look into. Churches might be a good place to look.

Good luck!
