Upstairs.
That's the beauty of split AC, it uses an inverter, so it doesn't have to run either full on or off like most window units do. I mentioned 'poop' in regards to split AC systems as after I installed mine, (installed it myself, not for the light hearted), is that the circuit board on the outside unit made a nice little home for some geckos. One day the AC didn't start up, didn't do anything. Just dead, as in make'd. Checked the breaker, it wasn't tripped, unit had power to it, turns out some gecko crap on the printed circuit board had eaten through a trace on the AC/DC power portion of the board. Essentially had unplugged everything just past the transformer and caps. LG wanted over 400 bucks for a new printed circuit board. I just soldered a 'bridge' over the broken trace, then clearcoated the circuit board. Good as new.

Crapped on, but still going

PSSSSS, do your tenants know you're lurking about and taking pictures???? Might want to check that rental agreement

1,800 SF w/whole house AC running 24-7 @ 76 degrees during the peak of summer + fridge, lighting, cooking, electronics, water heater, etc etc etc and
a HECO bill at (drumroll.....) $120/mo? Riiiiiiiiiiiight.

And those pics of your tenant's ac units don't prove anything but it definitely makes you a strong candidate for the 2017 Creepy Landlord Award.

Just the facts.... And, some BS
That 30,000 BTU unit running 24/7 on full blast would actually use $590/mo in electricity (3.16kW x 26 cents/kWh x 24 hours x 30 days = $591.50/mo).

And.... an 1,800 SF home would require more than 30K BTU of cooling. Realistically, more like 42K BTU.

In either case, the $120/mo bill (24-7 AC + every other load in the home) is complete BS.

Clearly some people are having trouble reading.

If you read the original post The AC ADDS about $120/month to the electric bill -

The entire home isn't cooled by a 30,000 BTU unit - downstairs is a 30,000 unit with each bedroom having a 12,000 BTU unit upstairs.

I don't have tenants in a GUEST house.

How did they pull a full vacuum test on three units in a half day?

Just wondering

Excellent! That's sounds like an acquired skill that is a consequence of many years of depravation caused by living on a small, gecko infested island surrounded by a very empty ocean.

I hear ya. Living on Maui is like being trapped in the sub-basement of Dante's Inferno with loud, cannibalistic neighbors, and, NO SPLIT AC!!

It's friggin, uuuurrrrpppp, scuze me, Hell.

Sub-Hell

But I persevere

Really, there is a distinct lack of reading comprehension going on here..
Even a dull wit like me picked up on the fact you said GUEST house.

Who on earth has a "guest" house that runs their ac 24/7 365 days a year? A guest house that is used to house tenants would be the general conclusion from any rational person. Most people don't have guest houses occupied 365 days a year and most people won't run their ac constantly if nobody is actually living in it.

Bottom line is nobody on Oahu has 6 TONS of cooling capacity running 24/7 at 76 degrees in the heat of the summer and only an extra HECO bill of $120/mo to go along with it.
