We're coming to Kauai next month for the first time. We've always been partial to Maui and go at least once a year.
It's $35 bucks a day and the Jeeps run great but are not beautiful. It's exactly what we love! Their Jeeps look local and fit our budget.
We're trying to find a similar set up in Lihue to rent from. I tried two places already but they don't rent Jeeps.

Anyone have suggestions? One of the above company's said there was a newer rental place in Lihue area that rented just such Jeeps but they couldn't remember the name or location.

Since we'll be staying just north of the Airport at the cheapest hotel we could find - I'd happily take suggestions on great cheap eats in that area.

Thanks and aloha!

We absolutely LOVE the Maui Jeep rental place and have been renting their beaters for years now. The rental lot is a disheveled sight to behold (think Sanford & Son). But when we're camping at Papalua, who needs to look like a tourista! Cheapest way to see Maui. Camping and a beater Jeep!

To my knowledge is there no such thing on Kauai. Jeep Wrangler rentals are very popular here and I see them everywhere but they're being rented by the major rental companies.

With very few exceptions you don't need a 4 wheel drive vehicle here anyway. Kauai doesn't have that many off road type trails that aren't gated.

Cheap eats... Costco for lunch; you don't need to be a member.

Mahaloha Balad, we're only want to rent a Jeep for the FRESH AIR effect (top off - woohoo!). No need to go off-roading.

We have a Jeep here at home and love it. But it's been raining for what seems like an eternity and we're looking forward to just being outside.

I know we can also rent a convertible, but just like to travel on a shoestring when we can, hence the need to rent a beater.
Aloha!

Also, just had a thought. Any tips on the best local farmers market/swap meet type places?
Our experience in Kihei is that the local grocery stores were really lacing in fresh produce that looked beautiful. When we found the farmers market in Kahului we were stoked!

You can try Island Rentals....I had a guest at my hotel rent a car from them and the car had a pretty big crack in the windshield.
