Who are we? Kentucky is sometimes mentioned as the first west, often called a border state, occasionally classified as Midwestern, and frequently termed Southern. In this talk, the State Historian of Kentucky, Dr. James Klotter and colleagues will look at what the South is and isn’t, and then examine Kentucky to see whether it really fits the region or not.

Kentucky is a lot like Texas in this regard: mostly Southern with influences from other regions and with a strong sense of pride and independence apart from any US region

On a side note... is it just me or do German Americans ala Midwesterns not know how to cook? I can't believe some of the crap that G/A's cook for a main course at a get together.
In my family every large meal has mashed potatoes, corn bread, and well seasoned corn and green beans with a large meat course like roast ham or barb-e-q chicken

You need to watch generalizing so many people. What is good to you may not be good to others but that doesn't mean they don't know how to cook. They may think your large meal with cornbread is horrible. You seem to do this often with people generalizing a whole group with some experience you had. You don't like lexington because of your bad experience but most people here are good people and to claim a whole culture or group of people's food is "crap" makes you seem very narrow minded. I had a few bad meals in the south before and don't think all southerners are poor cooks due to a few bad experiences. Plus what happened to that southern hospitality and charm? Saying people's food is crap kind of goes against that notion. Would you like some sweet tea?
