We are thinking of retireing to Georgetown. We live in the country now, a small town,in Calif., and want to find somewhere small and friendly safe for retired, or as safe as it gets. Does Georgetown welcome new comers that have no desire to change it?

georgetown has changed a lot since the 80's. I remember when it was run by the KKK. When Toyota came in 1985 I believe and Wal-Mart came in either the late 80's or early 90's, Georgetown changed a lot. It is a very friendly town and is convenient to Lexington Kentucky's 2nd largest city (about 15 min). Georgetown has grown tremendously thanks to Toyota Motor Manufacturing (they make Camry's and Avalons there), even the cops drive Camry's LOL. You'll love it! Very quiet, peaceful.

Default Georgetown, KY or maybe Paris

I think you would like Georgetown or even Paris (about 16 miles east of Georgetown) Paris is smaller (about 8,000 people) and surrounded by beautiful horse farms. Cost of living in either is very affordable. Georgetown has seen the big boom because of Toyota, etc and Interstate 75. I live in Paris myself and have friends from California who moved here and love it. They actually bought their house based on a video their realtor sent them...I couldnt do that myself. Georgetown is a little more progressive...home to Georgetown College, which is also used by the Cincinnati Bengals for training camp, has a few more dining choices but both are a short drive to Lexington.
