I'd add Jean Ritchie's "Black Waters", and perhaps "The L & N Don't Stop Here Anymore", along with "Bowling Green", made famous by the Everly Brothers (not sure who wrote it), and "The Kentucky Waltz", for sentimental reasons. Ditto "Kentucky Babe", one of the greatest lullabies ever.

Wow, Txwriter, it's hard to beat the King! He gave us so much great music, through the years. (two songs about Kentucky that I recall...Blue Moon of Kentucky and Kentucky Rain.)

CraigCreek, now I am going to have to go check those songs out...the only one I recall hearing right off is the Kentucky Waltz...I remember the Everly Brothers doing a song about Kentucky, but don't think I have heard of the song Bowling Green.

"Way down in Bowling Green..
Prettiest girls you've ever seen...
A man in Kentucky
Sure is lucky
To live and die in Bowling Green"

"Kentucky sunshine makes the heart unfold,
It warms the body,
And I know it touches the soul..."

There's more - it's a great paean to our beautiful state!

YouTube has most of Jean Ritchie's works, performed by her. What a great legacy she has left us. She was a very wise, funny, compassionate, and gracious lady, in addition to being a wonderful writer of songs, poetry, and prose, an environmentalist and conservationist, and a wonderful musician and performer. We were blessed by her long, productive life, and it's good to know that her family members continue to honor and share their family's remarkable heritage. A very great lady, in all ways.

Thanks for starting this thread. Much appreciated.

As a Boston Red Sox fan, the first Neil diamond song that comes to mind is "Sweet Caroline", but I've always loved "Kentucky Woman".
