Looking to rent a houseboat for some time in September for a family vacation. Can you tell me about Land Between the Lakes versus Lake Cumberland area? Biggest differences? What you prefer about the two areas?
We will have school age children with us so our priority would be enjoying the lake with maybe some day or evening activities that would be family friendly.

Lake Cumberland has more large fingers and quiet coves, the land there is more rugged, LBTL is flatter. Land Between the Lakes is more a huge broad main channel with some fingers. I grew up near LC, near the lake I'd recommend touring the fish hatchery (near the dam), near the other end of the lake Cumberland Falls and Big South Fork Scenic Railroad are nice

I'd also suggest Lake Patoka near French lick Indiana. I've house boated both the cumberland and lake Patoka and enjoy Patoka more because of the lake layout. There are more islands on Patoka and it's easier to load your house boat rental. Lots of good things either place just suggesting something else close to Louisville.
