LEXINGTON, Ky. (April 14, 2008) − The family of Connie Blount, a University of Kentucky student killed in a hit-and-run accident April 13 in Lexington, has planned a memorial service in her honor at 7 p.m. today, April 14, at the Baptist Student Center at 429 Columbia Ave., near the William T. Young Library on UK's campus.

LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) (July 25, 2008) - Louisville Metro Police have a suspect in custody wanted for the fatal hit and run automobile accident near the UofL campus that left two young girls, ages 4 and 5, dead and a woman injured.

------------

I think it is high time for our universities to install traffic calming techniques to protect pedestrians around our public universities. Things like Chicanes and Roundabouts would prevent drivers from going fast enough to kill anyone.

A Chicane on San Francisco's Lombard Street

A Roundabout

Also, I had previously pleaded with the city to replace the tiny and rusted traffic signal where last night's fatalities occured, at Floyd and Warnock. I have contacted the families and will aid them in suing Metro Government for refusing to improve the safety of the intersection

I am also contacting U of L Pres. Ramsey & UK Pres. Todd to ask them to have these safety improvements added on their campuses

I love Roundabouts! While I was stationed in Germany, I was a little puzzled at why they were used instead of a traffic lights at many busy intersections. After using them there for four years, I was impressed. Traffic flows safely and smoothly without coming to a complete stop. All you have to do is slow down, enter the circle when there's space then signal and exit to drive on your way.
The Wadlington and Lawrence families are in my prayers.

Those little girls' deaths are a tragic, horrible thing to happen due to some idiot who decided to run from the police. Now because the fool didn't want a ticket, two little girls didn't get to grow up and he has two murders on his hands. Stupid, stupid, stupid.

Why turn a terrible tragedy into a legal fiasco? I guess it is the American way This guy was a criminal who would have hit anyone, anywhere, and run. It is he who should be sued--with a hefty prison sentence of course. My heart goes out to the families.

I agree. I guess I don't understand how UofL can be sued for the actions of a criminal who would have done the same thing anywhere else he happened to be.

Louisville Metro Gov is who will be partly held accountably, not U of L. LMG maintains that traffic signal, which I have complained lacks visiblity since my freshman year in 2004.

LMG has replaced dozens of traffic signals that were no where near as bad as the one at Floyd and Warnock.
