Once again, Census, there are other parts of Kentucky past Mammoth Cave. At one time Aurora and Grand Rivers both talked of building themselves in a Gatlinburg type community. Aurora completely died after I-24 took all the traffice off 68/80 which ran through the middle of town. Don't know what happened with Grand Rivers. With the lakes and the huge Land Between the Lakes area drawing thousands of people a year, seems like that would be good spot for it. And I-24 isn't that far from Grand Rivers.

I'm pretty sure Deliverance was about my home state, Georgia, but I'll agree it has long been a pop culture icon of the mountains in the South.

I grew up on flat land and have lived all over, but never in the mountians. Now retired from the military, I'm looking to move to the hills of KY, TN, NC or Northern AL. I don't care how tall the mountains (hills in some cases) are or developed they are. I went to G-berg as a kid (didn't we all) and only liked the go-kart racetrack. If I were to go back today, I'd probably have the same impression.

Yes it was: James Dickey wrote the screenplay and John Boorman directed in this stunning movie adaptation of the bestselling novel. Starring Jon Voight, Burt Reynolds, Ned Beatty, Ronny Cox and the natural beauty of Georgia's Chattooga River, Deliverance was a huge hit in 1972.
