I was raised with weapons in the house and was taught to use them at a young age. Because I was allowed to target practice under supervision, they were not forbidden, and I did not touch them unless I had permission. Same with my sons. If you've ever walked in your front door while a panther went out the dining room window, you might see the need for a weapon. If you haven't, don't give me grief.
Missymomof3,
Get two skunks which have just been weaned and still have all original equipment. Make pets out of them and keep one in the garage and one in the house and make sure the neighborhood knows you have them. Best security system in the world. They make great pets and only cost you a sack of cat food and a brownie for a treat every now and then. You won't have much company, though. Never did figure that out.

I wouldn't keep a loaded skunk around the house under any circumstance. Besides, you never know when one of those things will go off!
They don't have any safety mechanism. They are prone to malfunction especially if an unexperienced person picks one up.
Plus...they STANK!

I prefer a semi-auto 1911 style pistol for personal defense. Plus you can carry one if your pants with a CC permit. Try THAT with a skunk! As for home defense, a tactical Remingto 870 with buckshot is my vote. Most police cruiseres have one as a primary defensive weapon. All you've got to do in most situations is rack the slide, and all you will see is ass & elbows.

Works for me....

Dig~

The only time I ever came close to having a loaded skunk in my pants was after having a couple of burritos at taco mac. It wasn't pretty....

I came from People's Republic of Kalifornia. My friend's step mom HATED guns, made her husband disassemble his gun and she will hide difference parts in various places in the house so he CAN'T find it!!

Until one day they had a home invasion robbery and she thought they'd be killed for sure. From that day after, she became the biggest gun advocate ever !!! She not only got a gun, took NRA shooting lessons, and even force her husband to go shooting !!! No longer a liberal anti-gunner no more !!!

Also a Kalifornian, moving east in the spring.

As they used to say, a liberal is merely a conservative who hasn't been mugged yet.

I've been shooting since I was about six and my home is well defended.

Digger, I lived with one for four years and he only went off twice and was provoked both times. The culprets were easily identified.
