Have found a house in Benton to buy and am wondering about the area. The house has a half acre, and is a cute house.

How is the area and is there a town in Benton?? I have been looking in Mayfield, but am wondering about this area.....

Any info and if you have some photos would be greatly appreciated.....

I lived there almost all my life, and honestly I don't like it. If you are from a rich, well known family you love the place, other than that it's a sinking hole full of closet racism. The only thing Benton has to offer is a Wal Mart and relatively low crime, but the crime issue is mostly because no one lives there. One thing to consider, almost all of marshall County is labeled as Benton. In town it sucks, but the more rural areas which include Sharp, Fairdealing, Aurora, Brewers, to name a few, are really nice areas. Take my advice, stay out of the "City" of benton.

I work there and am thankful I do not live within the town of Benton. I second everything you said.

I think Benton is a nice little town. Surprised at the negative comments.

I was just in Calvert City for a few days on business and the area is very pretty (Benton is right there by Calvert City). I was surprised at how rural the area is though. Outside of Paducah, there doesn't seem to be much to do and you drive pretty far to get to anything. We did enjoy Patti's for dinner and it was wonerful.

Well, Calvert City is about 16 miles from Benton. If you take the parkway it's not a bad drive. You take the other roads down by Ky. Dam Village and Draffenville, it seems to take a lot longer. Still a nice area. It's a nice scenic drive to Patti's in Grand Rivers.

Yes, it is. We really enjoyed it. I didn't realize it was 16 miles from Calvert City to Benton. They all seemed sort of right there together. I look forward to going back to Patti's sometime. It is over 2 hours from where I live but would be a nice weekend trip sometime.

My response is late, but just incase. Moving from an area like Laguna Beach to Benton can be a difficult if you have never lived in a rural community before. Be prepared for the realities surrounding the loss of city convenience, small town mind set, and a slowed lifestlye. Ofcourse you are looking at the area so this is obviously something you've thought about. Please note that Benton is a white community by choice. Rumour is that there are no other races in Benton because they are not welcomed. If this is something that you are looking for then you should be happy living in Benton/Marshall county. If you hope to have friends of other races come and visit from California please consider their safety. Like I said small town mind set.
