There is alot of unique names up in the applachian hollar

You mention Cutshin and it is one word not two even though the history of the town name is one of the early pioneers was crossing the creek and this is how it was named. Beautiful deep in the heart of the mountains town but also a place that time has forgot it just below another town called Greasy Creek.

Talking What a funny thread!

I don't live in Kentucky, but when I was signing in this thread caught my eye! lol! What a funny thread! It nice to see people talking about something funny for a change! I was reading through the city names and I noticed there is alot of names with "Lick" in them.. Big Beaver Lick, Wolf Lick, Paint Lick.. lol! I would have to say, out of the names that I just read Big Beaver Lick is so funny to me! Again, its nice to see a light hearted thread for once!

Generally a "lick" is a mineral deposit were animals go to to get there needed vitamins. Like a "salt lick" I grew up with a creek running across our property in Henderson Co called Lick Creek.

Kinda takes the excitement out of it when you know what it is .. huh? LOL
