I went to a new restaurants "trial run" today in Downtown Kingsport. It is called 12 Bones and it was SOOOOO good! They are opening Monday but today they opened their doors to everyone and fed everyone for free to get everyone ready for the real opening day. The food was awesome and the atmosphere was great too. It is on Main St across from the Chamber in one of those great old buildings that was renovated.
Downtown Kingsport has grown and changed so much in this past year! The streets are pretty with the tree lined sidewalks, they have put up an art trail of sorts with neat sculptures all through out the city. New city loft apartments are going in the upper stories and new business are going in below. New facades are going in and the buildings are just being over all updated. I have been really impresses with "The Model City" this past year and just wanted to share the info.

That sounds wonderful! I've always thought that Kingsport was the "forgotten stepchild" of the Tri Cities. I'm glad to see that they're doing some good things there. I'd like to go up sometime and see it for myself. I'm a BIG fan of renovated downtowns and historic districts. And good restaurants. heh heh

Ok, now I was born in Kingsport and I love it dearly but Kingsport earned the "forgotten stepchild" all on their own. Back when the Liquor By The Drink came up on the ballot, uber conservative Kingsport voted it down. College town, and a bit more liberal Johnson City voted it to pass. Up sprang establishments in JC and Kingsport started withering away. What's funny was all of the uber conservative Kingsporters then hopped in their cars every weekend to drive to JC to go out to eat (and drink!). It's taken a generation to right the wrong of the parents but they're catching up as fast as they can. Thank goodness! Kingsport is a lovely town with a flavor all its' own.

That's interesting. I personally don't drink, but I have never understood those liquor-by-the-drink laws. I mean, if beer is legal, why not wine or cognac? And why can't you buy it on Sunday mornings? At any rate, I'm glad to see that Kingsport is shaking off its dusty reputation and improving its appearance. I really do think it's a nice town. If I had to live in the Tri Cities, I would probably choose Kingsport.
