Seems to have been successful. People are getting help and there has been no evidence of increased crime or any of the terrible things that were said to come with such a clinic.

A major complaint is that the addicts go from heroin addiction to methadone addiction, but they are still addicts. Many addicts describe methadone withdrawal as much worse than heroin withdrawal, so most of the clinic users are not beating their addiction or able to turn their lives around, unfortunately. Most methadone clinics do not offer other counseling services and help - they are not a rehab facility, nor do they have in-patients. Methadone doses must be taken every day, so a methadone clinic would have the same people coming by daily for their next dose. Although some methadone doses are taken orally, some are injectable, so there is the added issue and stigma of discarded needles and the general fear people have of intravenous drug users.

So those are generally the basic reasons people do not want one in or near their neighborhoods - the impression is that methadone clinics invite drug addicts to the area, but don't actually solve the problem of drug addiction and, thus, it's simply a revolving door of addicts - whether to heroin or methadone - who come by for their daily fix. Whether or not the information, fears, and impressions of the general public are justified or accurate, these are some of the basic reasons people would not want a clinic nearby. A homeowner would also be worried about their house value being affected and their ability to sell the house in the future. Many people would not have the same fears if a rehab facility was opening near them.
YOU are so right!!!!!! Heroin addiction is the worst addiction anyone can get into. All are bad, but HEROIN, is the ultimate......along with Crack Cocaine, and Crystal Meth.....

About the only part that I will not agree with you is that "Many people would not have the same fears, if a rehab facility was opening near them." I have personally seen the results of that: As you probably know, people who have used the strong drugs cited above, have a tendency to go in- and out- of- them, myriad of times, and as the result of that, do drugs in the surrounding areas as well, as leaving their drug paraphernalia around. Heroin addicts would go in- and out- of a facility, for several years, and still not able to let go of the habit. And depending on how long they have been doing Heroin, will determine, if they can let go of it, at all. Many of them die more often of an overdose than get rehabilitated, because Heroin, is mixed with many other additives......including GASOLINE.....

If any other Government wants to bring another country to its knees..........it makes sure Heroin is rampant.....I do not want to get political with this issue, but perhaps it is one of the reasons why our current President wants a wall along our borders, to stop the invasion of South, and Central America, along with Mexico.......and its proliferation of drugs......and crime. And how do they start? They go to the small rural areas of towns and cities, where there would be a lack- of education and knowledge of these powerful drugs, and give it to them for much less money....sometimes for free......to get them hooked to them. And let us not forget to give it to young people and MOTHERS and FATHERS, as well. Are you aware of the fact that anyone addicted to Heroin, for sometime, will SELL their little children for a "FIX"? Will kill FAMILY members for money to buy a fix? It happens all the time......
