According to Black Enterprise magazine, Johnson City is among the top places in the United States for African-American retirees. The popular African-American magazine, read by an estimated four million people, released its “20 Best Places to Retire” issue this month. Johnson City was the only municipality in the Tri-Cities region ranked in the issue, coming in eighth.

Johnson City Mayor Phil Roe along with members of the Johnson City branch of the NAACP announced the ranking Wednesday.

“Obviously, the secret is out,” Roe said.

Speaking of Mr. Roe, who will be the new mayor when he gets his "promotion" to Congress? Does Roe announce a successor until the next election?

The only Mayor up for election in 2008 is Jonesborough.

What are those figures for? The Tri-Cities Combined Statistical Area? What I'm seeing is that Johnson City (the subject of the article) is more like 6-7% black.

Not a huge difference, but more diverse than 3%; it's a difference of around 1800 people.

One thousand or so 'more' non-whites in the MSA, hardly invalidates my

observation !

Er, right, whatever. I got my information from the US Census Bureau as well. And it sounds like your 'friends' and 'associates' are bigots, love.
