I recently retired and moved to Oak Ridge, thanks to this board!

I just wanted to say that I absolutely love it here! When I started to reasearch someone commented that people either love it here - or they hate it and can't get out fast enough. That it the first thing that really fascinated me.

People are have been wonderful and there is so much to do, I can hardly believe it's population is 27K.

As far as the crime that so much has been written about, There is 2 somewhat shady parts of town and most of the crime is confined to those areas, but really there isn't that much.

Thanks to all!

I think I remember making that comment many moons ago and still feel that way but I am glad that you like Oak Ridge. How long have you been there? Are you in a house or an apartment? I think that might make a difference.

Welcome to Oak Ridge! We've been here just over three years (husband got a job at the Lab and down we came from the fine Hoosier state).

I agree with inave...Oak Ridge is very different for different people depending on where they are in town, where they are in life, etc. For a retiree I really think you will enjoy this area. If you have any questions feel free to ask away and I'll try to answer for you.

I wonder if that means the Manhattan will no longer be a Section 8 property. It will take a lot to clean that place up.

Sorry. I was referring to another complex, the one right in front of Rolling Hills off of Virginia. Someone told me that was The Manhattan. Guess not.

The Manhattan as in the complex next to the Walmart?...Yeah that complex has potential,But its always been kinda shady and seedy to say the least...If they fixed it up and stopped the section 8 housing...Then that area of Oak Ridge would be alot better off
