We have relocated here about a month and a half ago, and have been enjoying every minute. My parents are coming to visit us in a couple weeks. Eventually they are thinking of retiring here, and will have 3 days to wander around the Knoxville area to check some places out. They have scoped out Tellico Village, and would like to see other areas. We live in West Knoxville (I-40/Walker Springs-ish), and hope that they won't be further than a 45 minute drive (although preferably closer).

As of right now they are thinking of perhaps a condo, I'll say $100K but in truth I am not sure of what their budget is. It doesn't have to be in a specific retirement community like Tellico, just something nice and quiet. They want to be close enough to shopping - but away from the traffic. And my personal request is relatively near a hospital.

Got any specific neighborhoods, communities, or small towns to check out?

In order to know whether they'll be happy -- from where did you move? Are they looking for something similar or a change?

There are two in the Maryville area your folks may like to consider if they want to be a in a senior community. I think there may be others but these are the ones I have most mentioned. I have met some people through volunteer work that live in the following community (they live in the Maryville facility) who seem really happy to be there. From the little bit of the community I've seen it seems like a well taken care of place.

Shannondale Retirement Communities

The second link is to one where I haven't had much chance to actually talk to people who live there but have heard second hand that it was a good place to live in.

Asbury Place-Make Yourself At Home (http://www.asburyplace.org/MaryvilleCottages.htm - broken link)

Good luck in finding them the right place.

Moving from Michigan, metro Detroit to be specific. I think they will be happy based on winter alone ;-)

Hey Pearl, sounds exciting having your family move close and tons of condos all within a 30 minute drive or so, of Walker Springs area. May need to increase budget just a little, as most condos are selling in the 115 to 130 range, and they probably want maintenance free. Good luck, and happy hunting!

I live in Tellico Village. If I can answer any questions you or your parents may have about living here, please let me know.
