My opinion? Everything you want on your list is here.

This city has been making efforts to promote itself for the outdoorsy play play play enthusiasts. That would be ME.

Outdoor Knoxville <-- check out some offerings

Being in a city that is a university town ( UT is here The University of Tennessee, Knoxville ) is a great amenity too. Your kids will have loads of options. Into swimming you say? Yes, that's doable here.

You get four distinct seasons. You have relatively close skiing opportunities in the winter. The local airport has airlines offering low cost airfare to Denver and Orlando. You can skip driving, by flying to Disney World, if you wish. Frontier Airlines, that's the one. They do lowfare air from to/from Chicago - Knoxville too.

There's far more cultural diversity here than at first seems. Its the college town influence, I think.

The Smoky Mountains is in view from here. Lovely visuals. Outdoorsy sporty? Yep. Maybe you're into kayaking? Fun! Biking trails? Got them too. I'm thinking of the Appalachian Mt. Bike Club https://ambc-sorba.org/

If you like river rafting you're near this --> Ocoee River - Whitewater Rafting Ocoee River | Nantahala Outdoor Center

Not sure what sort of education opportunities you want. There are quite a few STEM focused private schools I know. I'm sure you can find things to do here. :-)

This news channel WBIR is great about revealing what is going on in Knoxville. Perhaps you can check it out? Live at Five at Four

This might help you out since it gives a list of events in Knoxville
Calendar of Events | There’s More to Knoxville

Soccer? I'm out of college, so I just play for fun and dive into watching matches around the world. Yay, World Cup. Okay, this might be useful to you as an info source--> Knoxville Soccer Academy

Boating opportunities and possible lake front lots not built on yet or 1-3 acre lots not built on yet.

Thanks in advance for any help!
Knoxville has all of that. The west Knox County schools seem to get high marks (Hardin Valley, Farragut, Bearden & Oak Ridge).

Knoxville has 3 volleyball competitive clubs and a non/semi/rec league, too (CBFO). Similar situation with the soccer, baseball, swimming & basketball stuff (competitive & rec league).

There are also adult leagues. Church, city, etc. (i'm playing on a rec league volleyball team now with KnoxSSC at Knoxville Volleyball Academy)

RE: Backwards Thinking......backwards = history, so here's a little history. Knoxville hosted the 1982 World's Fair. & about 20 minutes to ORNL, you know - the Atomic Bomb & home to one of the World's largest & fastest supercomputers. Sergei Rachmaninoff's last public performance at The University of Tennessee on February 17, 1943. & The Univ. of TN has 23 NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS 8 IN Women's Basketball National Champions: & 6 NAT'L FOOTBALL CHAMPIONSHIPS - sixth in all-time Bowl victories (26), + UT has the Nation's 5th Largest Stadium and is Undergrad Alma Mater to Peyton Manning. CNN Money named Knoxville as one of the Top 10 Fastest Growing Cities. Many companies like Jack Daniel's have their global headquarters here. Plus beautiful four seasons, with Fall Leaves, summer heat and winter snow; not extremely large city so lots of neighborhoods with trees, and big yards, lakes for boating and traffic is pretty good. Life is good in Tennessee - Thinking Back, well, I guess we're still here!

Seriously, as a new transplant and person of color from the West Coast, the people of Knoxville that I have met have been gracious and very kind. I'm not sure what he means by backwards so I would like some elaboration but I sense a troll so I don't expect a response back.

Yes, I suspect something is amiss. Everyone knows that Jack Daniel's headquarters are in Lynchburg, Tenn. They are located over three hours away in Middle Tenn. The corporate owners are Brown-Forman out of Louisville, Ky.

Well, most people in Tennessee, but also worldwide know this.

ORNL does have the second fastest supercomputer in the world, though.

And a quick side note. To anyone that comes from a land that gets a "decent" amount of snow, we sure don't get much here.
