It appears downtown will be getting a new 21 story mixed use tower as well as a new hotel w/ retail across from the convention center. Building is scheduled to begin on both this fall.

Funky looking building. The elevated walkway looks very interesting though.

Isn't that walkway already there? Maybe not... it's been a while since I've been in that exact spot in Knox. I'd heard about the Sentinel Tower, news broke when I lived there. The hotel, though, looks very cool.

I just saw that billboard for the Sentinel Tower yesterday. I like it! And I think it's about time that downtown Knoxville gets some new high rises. With the new movie theaters downtown, all the restaurants on Market Square, Mast General Store, the renovated Tennessee Theater, and the proximity to U.T., I think more and more people (even U.T. students) will be interested in living downtown. In fact, if I'm still here when it's finished, I'll probably look into it myself.

That's the walkway that runs alongside the UT Conference center and over Henley Street to the Convention Center. They used more subdue colors on the UT conference center than it actually is.

Actually the crossover in the drawing is a new walkway that will be located one block south of the existing walkway, which is not enclosed like the new one will be.

Very excited about this. Downtown is great. We love the new movie theatre (with FREE PARKING) and look forward to the Farmer's Market this spring.
