Hello! My husband and I will be relocating to the Knoxville area the end of May. We are originally from North West New Jersey but retired early and moved to our dream destination, Western Puerto Rico in 2011. As you are all probably aware, we just went through a catagory 5 hurricane and try as we might to recover, it's just not going to happen. We survived the storm and the devestating aftermath, but will never be able to rebuild, regain employment or emotionally endure another hurricane season. We have always loved Tennessee and have visited several times...we have now made the decision to make our move but realize the many hurdles we will face. The first one being, finding a home sight unseen. We realize this isn't an option, so we are looking for temporary housing while we look for a more permanent place to call home. We will be arriving in Knoxville mid-may with few belongings that we could salvage, no employment and a small dog who is like the sweetest little guy you will ever meet. We are on a shoe string budget to start. FEMA has denied all of our claims and re-inspections which REEEEAAALLLY helps our situation (that's New Jersey sarcasm) 😜. Anyway, we are looking for a place to "land" and gather our footing so we can restart our lives.

If anyone has any suggestions as to where we can catch our breath to look for a more permanent home, we would love to hear any and all suggestions. We do have a little savings to restart, but it's not much. We just need a place for one-two weeks while we look at long-term rentals and work. Hotels will be a crushing blow to our finances, so any other leads on weekly rentals would be GREAT!! We are not high maintenance, as long at it has running water, electricity and wifi we are good! We have gone without all of those things for 6 months so ALMOST anything will do. A small cabin, cottage, apartment that rents by the week?

Thank you so much for taking the time to read this, and any help!

Since its only temporary maybe look into renting a cabin or house near the smokies or by Norris Lake.

Have you thought of looking on Air BnB and asking if anyone would do a short term rental?

I have a couple of friends that have AirBnBs in Knoxville. They can rent for one day to several months.

I see one of them on the front page.

So sorry about your loss. We have watched the tragedy that Puerto Rico is suffering. I currently live in NE Florida and we endured Matthew and then Irma also. I'm not going to live the rest of my life in FL, because of the increasing # and severity of hurricanes and other reasons. I'm working on returning to TN, my home state, Knoxville rather than Nashville, where I'm from.

You sound like the ideal candidates for house sitting. Look around online for house sitting opportunities and post your story on house sitting boards. I don't know if those types of boards exist, but I hope so.

Good luck to you and take care!

Thank you all so much! All of these suggestions REALLY help! I haven't been able to check back until now and was so happy to see such great suggestions and understanding! We are torn between Knox and Chat so are researching both areas and our options! Thank you again for everything!
