My family and I are looking into relocating to the Knoxville area but would like a smaller town outside of Knoxville. We are currently living in MN and hate it here, way to cold. We have actually lived here our whole lives, and have decided we need to leave. We would want somewhere that has a very good school system but we want a smaller school setting. Any suggestions, tips, I sure would appreciate.

Poke around here--there's a ton of info!

In order for someone to help you, you'd need to pick an area or at least give some detail on what you're looking for (farmland? mountains? acreage? rural vs. living "in town"? proximity to work? etc.)

If you'll be working and know where, maybe you'd try finding the location (Knoxville is BIG) of your job, and cut a circle around that area of the maximum distance you're willing to travel to that job. At least that narrows the areas down for you.

There are tons of helpful people here, but without a lot more information on what you're looking for, we'd just be throwing random info at you!

Thank you for the info...I would say we are looking more in the Maryville, Pigeon Forge, Gatlinburg area.

My family and I moved to Cleveland TN in June of 07. I feel its a great community to raise our 15 year old son. We have meet more people here, then we did in the 15 years we lived in Florida. We have access to everything we need, with out the heavy traffic.

Hi, I'm moving to the knoxville area in June and from my research Maryville would fit your desrciption better than pigeon forge and gatlinburg, they're very high tourists areas and I've heard some bad stories from others who've lived there. We may move to Maryville but won't know until my dh finds a job. Maryville has a very good school system from what others have said and looking into it myself and it's very close to knoxville, plus they have everything right there in town. Good lcuk!

And Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg I'd say are much further away than I'd consider a "small town outside Knoxville".

Maryville is a lovely town (possibly more of a "small city") and many are crazy about; it's a fairly common commute to Knoxville but again, you have to figure out if you're working in Knoxville, where you're going to be commuting to. Knoxville alone is 45 minutes from one end to the other.

From Gatlinburg or Pigeon Forge to the center of Knoxville, you're looking at 40+ miles vs. 16 miles from Maryville. I guess my point being...will Knoxville be your "regular" trip (i.e. for work, shopping, etc.)? Or is it just used to define the area of TN you want to be in?

If you don't know where in Knoxville, I'd definitely tighten my circle, then! And rent so you can change your mind after a year if you hate the trip from where you live to where you work.

Good luck!

Do not pick an area to live until you know where you will be working. It is easy to make a major mistake, if you aren't careful. Knox area jobs are really spread out.
