Hi, guys. For those of you who have travelled downtown for this event, where are the best places to park? Also, any areas to avoid for parking?

We are hoping to go to Fantasy of Trees and then wander around Market Square a bit on Friday.

Thanks for any help! Have a great Thanksgiving all!!!!

Parking is a snap, just use the Summitt Hill exit, and use the garage, and only a couple of blocks to walk, and safe. You could get lucky, and park down around the Candy factory, but is usually full. The downtown area, has several garages.

Don't forget the trolleys! They are still free and the orange line will take you from Market Square to the Convention Center.

The map shows parking garages, trolley routes and stops.
There's underground parking at the Holiday Inn across from the Convention Center. You can then grab a trolley that will take you to Market Square. There's also parking at the Hilton Hotel with easy trolley access.

I'm looking at the map, but I have always wondered about the hours. Someone that worked at the historical society said that those trolleys only run on weekdays and only when school is in session. He said that is a part of the problem when it comes to tourists and locals not coming downtown.

Anyway, I plan on going to Fantasy of Trees on Thursday and perhaps downtown on Friday. I wonder if they will be running. Almost certainly they will not on Thanksgiving, but I can't blame them for that. Understandable.

Go here:
KAT - Knoxville Area Transit
And click on "Trolleys" on the left hand side. There isn't a direct link.
It looks like the orange line runs 7 days a week. It should if they want people to come downtown!
Some of the lines that mainly serve UT only operate when UT is in session.
"Holidays on Ice," the skating rink downtown, has great parking info here:
Knoxville's Holidays on Ice | Parking Downtown | Parking, Knoxville, Downtown, Free, Coliseum (http://www.knoxvillesholidaysonice.com/index.php/knoxville-info/parking.html - broken link)
I didn't know that parking in the city garages was free on weekends and at night. That's great.
When my sister was visiting in October we parked in the new Market Square garage. That was very handy.
