We would like to visit Knoxville tomorrow and I know they are calling for rain. What could we do and still get to see the city?

First stop........buy an umbrella.

Then do whatever you had planned to do, except maybe the picnic. :-)

Default Day trip to Knoxville

This Friday afternoon and evening, to meet the son's girlfriend.
Considering spending a few hours at IJams then dinner, but would love to hear other suggestions. Anything interesting going on downtown or in nearby areas then?
I'd like to keep it casual, and somewhat inexpensive if possible since I'm picking up the tab.

What about the Tennessee Riverboat Cruise? I believe it's 2pm to 4pm? You get lunch, I think (double check) and I believe the cost is $25 per person. You get lunch and a nice cruise for that price.

It's supposed to be a lovely day Friday, 80 and sunny! Nothing like lunch and a nice riverboat ride.

Can you stay through Saturday? This Saturday is the Vestival - a cool and quirky arts & music festival in South knoxville. Also it is Bloomsday which is a more mainstream garden festival at the UT agricultural gardens.

Riverboat cruise sounds very nice, I'll check into that, thanks!
The kids have to work on Saturday, but I might stay and go to the festivals by myself. Sounds like fun!

And don't forget the farmer's market on Market Square Saturday morning and early afternoon. Even if you aren't interested in veggies it is just a fun time. Lots of people watching, a very festive, eclectic atmosphere!

Smile what to do for a day in Knoxville

I have never been to the downtown part of Knoxville and will be there for one day in Nov. Any suggestions of anything fun to do. Arts and crafts, bands, anything not costing anything or low cost. Also any good restaurants (mom and pop) not chain anyone can suggest? This will be during the week, not the weekend.

Most of the restaurants downtown (Market Square, Gay St.) are locally owned non-chains. You can get a meal at most of these places for less than $10 but with a drink, tax and tip it'll be over that. Maybe we should list which places don't require a tip (prepay)....all I can think of is Blue Coast Burrito. You prepay at Trio's but I think we left a tip.

I'm not aware of any outside music if there's no festival going on. Lots of music at night in bars/clubs but I don't know the cost. Things are hopping on First Friday but most other weeknights are quiet. Has the music on the square ended (jazz)? I think that was just a summer thing.
