I am thinking about having LASIK surgery in Knoxville. And I have a few questions to ask:

1. Is there any recommended doctor for LASIK in Knoxville? Price? Service?

2. Have anyone every taken LASIK? How did it go? If one can get a clear vision after the surgery, can it last long?

3. Any sideeffect you have ever experience? I was afraid to have dry eyes or halo vision for a life time.

Thank you very much.

lxwdhr,

I strongly recommend Dr Darin Smith at Baptist Eye Institute. Second in his class at Duke Med School, one of the highest regarded in the area. I've known several that used him. His post op is great, he called them all the same day to see how they were doing, and saw them all the very next morning to do a quick check up and make sure everyting was in order. If you're a good candidate for lasik, you shouldn't have too many concerns about future vision. I also know that Campbell and Cunningham, their main competitor in Knox, is very good as well. Both are similar in price, and will offer very similar experiences in patient care. Best of luck!!

I used Dr. Woolfson last summer. I've been 20/15 in both eyes since my 24 hour post-op appointment. Haven't had any complaints. He is an EXCELLENT surgeon. One of the pioneers in the field of Lasik surgery.

My optometrist stated the following day at follow up that if he hadn't known I had surgery the day before, he would have not noticed the flap. That is where the surgeon skill comes in.

I went with the Wavefront technology, and it was well, well worth it.

I was about -3.5 in each eye pre-surgery.

Woolfson Eye Institute: LASIK eye surgery specialists Jonathan Woolfson, Andrew Schatz, General Ophthalmology, Cataracts, Cosmetic, IOL, LASIK

Here is info on Dr. Woolfson and his training. He's probably well into the 70K numbers by now of surgeries performed.

If you have any specific questions about the procedure, I'd be happy to help.

I second Dr Smith - or either of his partners, Marc Bodenheimer and Frank Murchison, at Baptist Eye Institute.

I had Lasik done about 4 years ago in Va. I love it. I see 20/15 now and before had to be right under a highway sign to read it. The dry eyes and halos at night are only temporary. For me, they lasted for about a month. The day of the surgery, afterwards, I went home and took a nap because of the Valium. When I awoke, I could read the sign at the end of my street. It was pretty amazing.

Have to second Williamsold, and you might ask Gaiilli, who post on here also, as she had surgery by Dr. Darin Smith, and had great success and has posted here often.

Thank you very much.
I had the inital surgury March 06 then an enhancement in November 06.
The only issue I had was epithelial ingrowth, primarily in my left eye. I have had no problems from it to date. Here's a link that is pretty informative on it - Epithelial Ingrowth.

I have been led to believe the halo effect is related somewhat to the size of your pupils. Mine are smaller than average and I had no halo effect at all!

Good luck to you!

I feel compelled to add how important it is to be PRE-SCREENED very, very, very well.

And, no contacts for 2 weeks before surgery.

Anyone that wants to do it any other way, I would be suspicious of in particular.

Oh, and I'd never have surgery done by "the cheapest/best deal" surgeon.

I got what I paid for.

Just a follow up. I had my one year check up today with my local optometrist.

I'm now 20/10 in both eyes. Best money I ever spent on myself.

The Eye Doc's jaw dropped as I read the line to him.
