I'm moving to Farragut (West Knoxville) and I'm debating whether I should move my current AT&T DSL there or switch to Charter cable Internet.

AT&T has been great: Very reliable, pretty much consistently exceeding the promised 6 Mbps down, 0.5 Mbps up.

However, Charter offers 10 Mbit down, 2 Mbit up, which would be a nice upgrade. On the other hand, I understand they don't have the best reputation, and with cable you're less likely to get the promised speed.

I would love to hear some firsthand experiences!

Thanks!!

My Mom lives in Farragut and she has Charter internet. I use it when I am at her house. She has been pleased and has had no complaints about either her internet or cable tv service/reception. Also, just last week my Mother mentioned to me how pleased she was with Charter customer service. I don't know a thing about the other service. Hope this helps?

Since I'm not a cable customer, the cable company was going to charge me like 65 bucks a month for internet only. I went with AT&T and it's less than 30/month since I bundle. It's pretty good, no complaints whatsoever.

Isn't Knology available in West Knox? Even though I use Comcast and love it, Knology does have some great deals. I believe for $99/month you can get digital cable, cable internet, and land line phone service with unlimited local and long distance calling.

by the way Charter and Comcast are the same company. In Florida we had Comcast and I never had ANY problems with my connection. I guess it depends on the area though.

Where do I work? Comcast.

Charter was started in 1993 in Delaware. It was involved in an accounting scandal with four executives indicted for fraud. It has recently shut down a lot of its call centers, with personnel being outsourced.

Comcast is the largest cable company in the country. It was started in 1963 by Ralph Roberts in Tupelo, Mississippi. He still sits on the board of directors but his son, Brian, runs the company. It is an American company. It does not outsource.

Comcast has NOTHING to do with Charter.

Cable companies are cable companies.

I don't discriminate...I pretty much loathe them all. Jack up rates consistently for an inferior product, typically "provide" horrible service, and use horrid false advertising.
