Hi Everyone,

My fiance and I are looking to move to Knoxville in late July from Ohio. He is an insurance professional and I will be attending UT Law. We would like to purchase a house for around 150k and are wondering what suburbs/neighborhoods are the best to look in?

We'd like to purchase a house that has been built in the past 25 years and that has a fenced in back yard (doesn't have to be huge, just some green space). We'd also like to be within 15-20 minutes of UT for my commute to school everyday.

So far I have browsed mostly in West Knoxville. Is that a good area and does anyone have any other suggestions?

Thanks so very much for any and all feedback!

Sure, West Knoxville is great. You'll find most of the homes that fit your criteria in that area are in the Amherst area off of Middlebrooke and all through there. Other areas would be Pleasant Ridge, Norwood, Cumberland Estates, Powell and Halls. All fabulous areas!

Thanks very much for the feedback. Aside from West Knoxville, does anyone have any feedback about Fountain City? I really don't know anything about it, but have seen some house listings online in our price range.

We live in the fountain city area and love it. We deleted just bought a new one in fountain city. It took us a while to find what we wanted because we limited our search to the fountain city area. One of the things I love most about it is the convenience to everything. UT and downtown are less than 10 minutes away.

I live in Fountain City. It is an older section of Knoxville and one of the city's first suburbs. It is a very charming area, complete with a duck pond and a very large, shaded playground. There is widespread demographic in Fountain City, it seems, with the rich and poor, young and old all living together. I love it.

Hey speaker676, congrats on your relocating and any place from the West knox area, will put you within an easy 30 minute drive to campus. As hike suggested, Ft City is also nice with the parks and ponds. Good luck and enjoy your move.

Hi, all! My boyfriend and I are also looking to move to West Knoxville. We will both be grad students in the fall at UT. We would like to rent a house, but don't really want to go the Craigslist route (have been burned before!).

Does anyone know another method of how to go about finding a house to rent? Do real estate agents ever have rent to own or just rental offers on the homes that they list?

Thanks!

Personally, I think you should check out South Knoxville. It's about 5-10 min. MAX from UT and is a beautiful area. Plenty of homes in your price range with your qualifications. I love the www.realtyiii.com website or the knoxville mls website (google it) for searching.
