Ex-Pat New Orleans jazz musician in NM for the past year playing some blues and some western swing but want to do a little more jazz. I play trumpet/trombone/sax(soprano&alto). I would love to form a New Orleans type brass band using a southwestern flavor--add a little chili to the gumbo. Would need musicians who can swing and create their own parts in the ensemble. Need 2 trumpets or cornets, 2 trombones, 1-2 reeds, bass drum, snare drum, tuba. Festival promoters are interested in this idea so if you are interested let me know.........Also interested in finding guitar player and bass player who might be interested in doing quiet jazz brunches in the New Orleans style. I am in T or C but 'have horn, will travel'. Brian

I play fretless bass, bas trombone and tuba. Your idea sounds great! Wish I weren't 500 miles away.

That's the idea. I play with the "Curio Cowboys" in ABQ and I've learned plenty about Bob Wills and many more Western Swing cats. Supposedly there was a WS band from New Orleans called "The Swift Jewel Cowboys". They were around in the 1930's-I have some recordings and they could swing. Great trumpet player and clarinet player on the record. So I want to take from these ideas to use in the brass band. I sure wish that tuba was a little closer.
