I thought my house was on fire this morning. I asked my wife what the smell was, and lo and behold, it's raining outside! When was the last time any of us saw this stuff? (checking national weather service archives) I don't even feel that comfortable driving in it any longer.

Yep, it is raining now in Rio Rancho. A medium drizzle, Just came back from my dog walk, we are all soaked. I just thought that smell was wet dogs... I did a good deed, I threw neighbors newspaper on to dry porches. I wonder if anyone will notice or maybe complain...

Last day in Las Cruces with traceable rain: December 9th, 2008. Total : 1/10th of an inch. January 2009: 0 inches. February: 0. March: 1/100th of an inch. April: 4/100th of a inch. That means in 4 months, we've had 1/20th of a inch of rain, until today.

To draw a contrast, I remember living in New Jersey, in one day, July 12th, 2004, to be specific, we had 14 inches of rain. I was sweeping water into the sump pump in my basement for about 2 hours that day, then the motor burned out of it.

This is better.

That is great news. Kent heard on the weather station last night that the monsoon season will be starting early.

'Bout danged time. I sent that stuff weeks ago. Slow postal service :0)

Glad y'all are getting some much needed moisture. Here we're tickled to death that the rain has stopped long enough to work hay. Everyone, everywhere was dropping, tetting, raking and baling this week.

I laughed at Mike's comment about driving in rain. I absolutely HATE to drive in rain and I got my wipers replaced last week. I told the tech that they'd probably dry rot. lol

It really was super nice at 5.00 A.M. this morning over in Alamo as i had to wear a long sleeve sweatshirt and it was drizzling and the mountains were hidden by the thick clouds but one thing i love about the desert is when it does rain it has the most erotic smell i've ever encountered. Some of it is do to the Creosote bushes opening up their pores to get to the moisture as that releases their ''desert fragrance'' but again it smells so fresh and unique.

I do love the way it smells here when it rains.

Only in New Mexico, will the possibility of rain get people out of their houses

I think I saw more of my neighbors yesterday than I have for weeks, all of us, standing outside looking up at the sky watching the clouds darken.

Good times, good times.

Ditto West Texas. There's nothing quite like it in either place....love it!!
