Hmmm..very mysterious.

The Admiral went into Lee's in Boca Park...and said it was really nice. The Admiral is fussy...

But our local Lee's at Craig and Rancho is down to half stock. Virtually every name booze has an out of stock sign...

Vasislos? Has Mr. Lee run out of cash/credit? How are the other Lee's being stocked?

Inquiring minds want to know...is Lee committing all his resources to beating off Total Wine?

Hard to believe that Lee could crash...but who knows...

I hope to God not. I just went to the one on Flamingo and Pecos yesterday and they were fully stocked. I cannot see liquor stores closing down in the depression we are in. The more the economy gets worse, the more people drink.

I sure haven't seen any indication that they're in financial trouble. I'll swing by the Aliante location tomorrow to see how they're doing unless somebody already beat me to it.

I sure hope not. That's where I get "Hops Rising" DOUBLE India Pale Ale (Double the Hops) @ 9% Alcohols by volume, from Squaters of Salt Lake City.

Lee's has also ordered for me "Sink the Bismark", a specialty beer that is a staggering 41% alcohol by volume.

That is not a typo. 41% alcohol -- 82 proof beer. BrewDog Brewery | Sink the Bismark!

I got to try that. How does it taste? Is it like drinking a shot?

Yep... pretty much like drinking a shot (a bitter shot).

I couldn't bring myself to get "End of History" beer -- 55% alcohol by volume. That is not a typo. 55%. 110 Proof beer. They only made something like 7 bottles, I read. They sold out at over $700 per bottle for a bottle of beer. Each bottle is inside a dead rodent.

not kidding.

16% Steel Reserve beer is about the hardest I like it. Past that, no matter the taste it just seems like hard alcohol and not beer anymore.

Except for Steel Reserve, those other beers sound like Barley Wine. I've had some, and it's pretty thick stuff. Not quite as thick as cough syrup, but close. I like Lee's because they carry my favorite scotch, and several brews of Baltika beer, which is imported from Russia. It's great stuff, I highly reccomend it.

Lee has closed (for the summer he says) Lee's Tavern, a restaurant located in Mesquite attached to the Lee's Liquor store here.

Heh.

The "End of History" beer reminded me of one of my faves, La Fin du Monde. Loosely translated it means "The End of the World". It's a Belgian style triple fermentation made in Canada (Quebec). At 9% alcohol, it's one of the stronger beers I'd drink on a regular basis. Highly recommended if you haven't tried it.

Duvel (a true Belgian beer) is another favorite of mine, yet it's 'only' 8.5% alcohol - although some sources claim it's 10%. It's deceptively light in color, as it's far more complex & flavorful that most beers that light. Those are probably the two strongest beers I'd drink on a regular basis. Beyond that, it just wouldn't seem like beer.
