Hi,

I am graduating soon from graduate school and my focus on the job search has been finding an organization that I would like to work for (I am going into hospital administration). Now I am turning my focus to the actual city. I was wondering if anyone had any opinions on which city is better for a 25 single woman to live: DC, Miami, Las Vegas, or Chicago? Thanks for your help!

Well I live in DC, but am going to move to Vegas in October. DC has plenty of jobs available; however, it is very expensive to live here. The crime rate especially in DC itself and PG county in Maryland is going through the roof with homicides. Then there's the traffic, unless you are going to live within walking distance of the hospital you will hate the traffic. It's getting to the point that 2-hour commutes each way are commonplace even for a 20-30 mile commute to work. If you check the threads in Maryland and Virginia, you will find numerous people that are just sick of wasting their time sitting in traffic jams all over the city.

As for Vegas, it's not as bad as DC. However, you want to make sure that you don't work in Henderson if you live in the NW part of town. Traffic can be a bear on I-15/95 at rush hour. The good news about Vegas is that there are plenty of hospitals all over the city, so you can decide which part of the city to live and have a decent commute.

My former sister-in-law works in HR for the Siena Hospitals, so if you decide on Vegas and would like to talk to her, PM me and I'll give you her name.

Good luck
