Fire Starts During Couple’s Apartment Move

No Injuries Reported

LAS VEGAS -- Clark County firefighters said a couple moving into a new apartment lost many of their belongings in a fire just after midnight Thursday on the city’s east side.

- Considering the neighborhood I'm not so sure about this story. All their stuff was in the apartment that burned. Either they goofed and left something burning during the move, or they got jacked big time EARLY by someone who doesn't want them there...either way...REALLY BAD LUCK there...Gotta feel bad for these guys.

Cant wait to see the Fire Dept results...

What's funny is that these t are incidents that are reported. Can you imagine the incidents not reported. Vegas is dangerous! You cannot put enough police on the streets.

.
Why would anyone want to move to such a terrible town.

The percentage of unemployment itself doesn't make Vegas dangerous. It's the TYPE of unemployed people that'll determine the crime rate. People that area accustomed to property & personal crimes will turn to it at greater numbers than people who aren't accustomed to it.

Vegas is great, for anyone who understands what Vegas is.

I'm amused that someone calling themselves "vegaspimp" is whining about Las Vegas being a "terrible town."

Crime is down substantially over the last few years.

Is not life strange?

Is crime substantially down? Or are you referring to murders/roberries/rape official stats only? I ask this because many of the violent crimes go unreported in the city...Many of them are also still buried out in the desert.

Also - youre right its not the % alone...its the % that gets laid off, and of late the % that has been laid off the most are construction/labor, State employees, casino employees, teachers....Foreclosures happen...People on the streets...Gotta survive...Math is done.

Just for kicks, I pulled up City Data pages for a number of cities...

Crime Index in 2008:
Las Vegas - 505

Some places that Vegas is safer than:
Houston - 573
Dallas - 602
Chicago - 615
Miami - 632
Nashville - 632
Salt Lake City - 654
Philadelphia - 665
DC - 675
New Orleans - 676
Orlando - 887

And these are just a few. We're not exactly the cesspool of the country.

I kinda find it funny, that some people over exaggerate the crime here. All cities have it, I have not lived everywhere, but I have to say Vegas seems a lot better them some other cities. I do not believe they even have metal detectors at the schools yet. But you look at other cities and they do.

I have lived in Vegas for about 12 years now, and have never had an incident happen to me (knock on wood). I have been all over the city. The way you talk, it is as if you walk down the street and you are going to get mugged, shot or raped.

Like any city you need to know where to go and where not to go to. Me, being a very white girl, I know not to go to certain areas of town after dark. That is just being smart with your surroundings. I have no problem driving around the bad areas of town, but just as long as I am driving.

But being in the field that we are, we also have been all over the town and in tons of homes and apartments, I have only had one incident with a technician being hurt, by some crazy lady throwing a glass candy dish at my tech, because she did not want to have her apartment treated for the German Roaches she was attached too.

Oh, I have had a couple of crazy employees threaten me. But that was just men, who thought they were all big and bad and could scare a young woman, but I proved them wrong, lol.

Sorry, but I just do not see what you see. Don't know what part of town you live in, but I believe you should move if you are so unhappy, and are actually seeing all of that crime happen.
