I can see that quite a few people are considering the move to Las Vegas. I am also considering the move to Las Vegas. Like others I am not sure where to look, what neighborhoods are safe for a single woman, what school systems are good (I am a teacher), the cost of living, etc. I would really like to know what neighborhoods to start my search. I have been to Las Vegas twice and fell in love with the city. I rode through Boulder but have heard alot about Summerlin from this cite, although I could not find this on the map. So where do I start, I am planning a trip out next year to get my feet wet and travel more outside the strip. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Summerlin is a nice area, I think some of it is overrated. I moved here a year and half ago and Vegas is a hard city to meet friends. I have work friends but no one really outside of work. If you have a choice in the schools system try to get into Summerlin. I have a friend that moved out last summer from Ohio and she is a teacher. They found a house to rent on the N.W side of town which is a nice area. Vegas is nice and there is a job market out here. I am from Oh and there just was nothing back there. If you need me to send you any papers or anything just let me know.

I keep a page just to show newbys where everything is see...

Las Vegas Interactive Map

This can show you zip codes and the major developments. If you click the active developments you will go to the site.

Basically for a newy stay outside of 215. There are lots of nice places inside 215 as well...but they are more complicated to deal with.

I think it matters what you are looking for. Like most cities, this one has all sorts of areas that are unique. It also has more than it's fair share of suburbs but those matter too because choosing the wrong one or area will make driving a nightmare. If you are more specific on what you like to do, what you want to be close to, where you expect to work, ect, many people here can give you some great advice.

For example, I love the area around UNLV, but I live in the Northwest part of the valley so unfortunately I don't get down there as much as I would like to. If I had to do it again, I would have paid closer attention to where we liked to spend our time and focused on that instead.

Even when we were living in Green Valley Ranch, we always found ourselves around UNLV, Maryland Parkway is about the best street out there, when we were looking to move we tried to find a place to live around there, unfortunately all the good homes (Paradise Palms, Royal Crest Rancheros, and the townhomes behind Chipotle), were either too expensive or didn't allow pets, we also didn't want to live somewhere that was built in the 60s...so we moved over off of LVBS, near Pebble, however because of the airport tunnel and the South Strip Transit Terminal, it takes a 5 minute drive or a 20 minute bus ride...its actually easier for us to get to the Wal-Mart at Eastern/Patrick, rather than the one at Eastern/Serene, plus the one at Patrick is so much nicer...
