Due to all the testing that has taken place in Nevada, how big of a problem is this in Vegas? I love sunny climates, but didn't know if this would significant enough to write off southern Nevada as a potential move someday.

My understanding (from reading history of nuclear testing in Nevada) is that most of the fallout spread to the Eastern US, affecting, among others, a group of people in New Hampshire. This is not a joke--I don't have the URL, but you can google the topic and you will see where they identified cancer clusters stemming from this. A large group of people put in for government restitution benefits after they successfully proved that their cancer was the result of contamination from these tests. There is an online video archive of interviews with these folks and their families. It's heartbreaking.

That said, I would imagine that wherever you see glass particles mixed with the sand in Southern NV, it's probably from the nuclear explosions. However it's been about 50 years so the half-life is probably over. You'd probably have no greater risk of getting cancer in LV than in a place like Long Island, NY, where there's a nuclear reactor and several chemical labs.

Las Vegas got virtually no fallout. It went mostly to the midwest and northeast.

There are maps of the fall out areas here...

Nuclear Fallout Maps, nuclear fallout, atomic testing, fallout

If you want lots of fallout, go to Utah. That's where it all blows.

That was 60 years ago and the wind drifted towards St. George Utah. Don't worry - thousands of people live in Hiroshima today and it got a direct hit!

Long Island is a hot bed for breast cancer.

I'd be more concerned about the PEPCON explosion...

It's an interesting slice of Vegas history.

Very interesting. Nothing over Las Vegas. I don't know if I really understand the maps very well. But one of them has a lot of activity around the Pittsburgh area. Not sure if I really understand how or why though.
