It involves pulling up to the equipment, a guy runs out, scans something, sticks a plug into your car's computer, and in about five to ten minutes you should be on your way. No need to go to a car dealer. All results are automatically sent via computer to Carson City. I like to go to Terrible Herbst on Cheyenne and Buffalo, but I think the last time I went to a smog kiosk in the Albertson's Center on Cheyenne and Durango/Rampart. I haven't asked, but it appears they aren't allowed to make you wait any longer than it takes to do the cars immediately ahead of you...which is usually no more than a couple, if any.

On OBDII cars they just pull your codes from your OBDII port. It has to be running on a closed loop (from the sensors) which means you can't pull a fuse to get your check engine light out and then go get the test. A check engine light is an instant fail and any fault code in (during closed loop) will turn on your check engine light.

If the car is older and doesn't not have OBDII, then they will run a simple sniffer test with an exhaust sniffing machine. Your vehicle must be lower than the max spec which varies from vehicle to vehicle.

I went to Jiffy Smog or something like that. There is one at the gas station by 215 and Centennial and there is one at the gas station near Smith's @ Aliante. Honestly they are probably at half the gas stations out here.

if you have a newer car, it involves bending over. just another way we consumers get raped. there is no way a smog test should be necessary for anything newer than at least 5 years and probably much older. they need to concentrate on all those buses and construction trucks that bellow out all that black looking smut.

I go to Maxi Smog on Nellis, you can get Somg test and register it right there, no need to go to the DMV. You get the sticker in the mail in about a week.

They are making sure that people don't remove the smog equipment for better performance.

There's a million smog places. Just look for the cheapest and most convenient. When your car is due to be smogged you'll usually get a bunch of coupons in the mail. Most of them take each other's coupons.
