I'm afraid your living in the past. Yes, Vegas still get's it's fair share of visitors but it will never be the same as it once was, too much has changed. It will survive of course, but on a much attenuated scale. Take a look at all these failed/cancelled projects and you can see how out of control things became...

duh, we don't want LV to EVER be the same as it was. Too much growth, done too fast..all on money that nobody had to begin with.

Yes, LV will survive, and continue to grow as well, we can only hope it will do so at a much slower, NORMAL and natural pace...as it should be.

And no, I'm not living the past, I'm here in the present in LV, and where you want oh so bad to be, lol

Sorry evenrioyoinvrdhubtrnjovsdmter you have absolutely no idea what your talking about

Failed projects are a way of life in LV....all the fastbuck grifters from everyplace in the world come here with an architectural rendering and a $30 option on a piece of property.....then they try to hustle a bunch of investorsand scam them for their cash....

He wants so desperately to buy in LV with a VA loan (posting history data), he'll continue to dig up any negative he can find. That's why he's here in the LV forum and not talking about fishing/buying in Hawaii like he said he was going to do

If he can't be happy, nobody can, hence the constant LV negativity...

I honestly don't know why they insist they want to live/buy here instead of just enjoying their vacation here in town and then going home...lol.

Just curious unforgiven, where did you move here from if you dont mind me asking?

Louisiana was the most depressing state when I drove out here. New Orleans and Baton Rouge seemed old and run down. Baton Rouge reminded me of old Industrial Rust Belt cities of New England like Springfield, MA Hartford, CT among others
Worcester, MA but I lived in many towns across Mass. I also lived here when I was 8 for one year. Things were sure different when I moved back in 09.

Maybe not the early 2000 Vegas but how about the early to mid 90s Vegas?

I Love the present Vegas very much but wish I had a chance to experience some of the older Vegas from the 80s and 90s.(I was born in 1980) Not so sure if I like the way the "new" Vegas is headed....Ex. Opening of Cosmo, closing of the Sahara.

(paraphrased)Even Detroit "MGM Grand Detroit" and how bout Missisippi Harrahs and MGM casinos. If it's just gambling that made people want to come to vegas, then stateline, pahrump and mesquite would be successful.

dynimagelv -- you seem to be contradicting yourself here... I thought your position was that people 'NEED Gambling' so they come to vegas?????

BTW that comment 'people NEED Gambling' Makes a sad generalization that people are all a bunch of addicted halfwits like from the movie 'Leaving Las Vegas'. Sure some people do have problems and should seek treatment, but that is not the general population.

I love the present day LV too, the conveniences we have nowadays is fantastic, but I adored the place in the late 70's, 80's and 90's. The 80's started the large population growth, but even back then, you knew just about everybody it seemed. In the 90's growth started to become uncontrolled and we lost our local schmocal bit of heaven to the great migration.

Gosh, I remember my uncle and aunt, who moved here in the mid 60's, buying their house at Vegas/Decatur and that was considered "the boonies" and my very first visit to them, wondering where the heck is everybody? If you weren't on the still very undeveloped Strip or on Fremont Street, or just East of the Strip, there wasn't too much....

I remember working for SUMMA and wondering who the hay yell would want to live in such a remote and "in the sticks' place that would be built and called Summerlin, lol.

LV was very small townish back then, and for some of us long timers, it still is despite all the newness. And yes, we didn't lock our doors at night and we got dressed up to the nines to go to one of the Strip Hotels and restaurants or to see a show..and little kids were not allowed in any casino/hotel whatsover...I used to the love that movie theater in the MGM (the one that caught fire, where Bally's is now) that played only old MGM movies for free..with complete cocktail service. A hamburger and ice cream at White Cross Drugs......very small town America type stuff.

Us long timers have had to get used to the old stuff and old way of doing things going away...I still sometimes can't believe the Aladdin or the Dunes are gone, never mind my fave..the Stardust. Most tourists (especially the young kids (25-40) just don't want to see that old, worn, themed stuff anymore

Almost all that you have talked about I know from TV, movies or books. Its the reason why I put down Nellis AFB on my list of bases to be stationed. In my 2 1/2 years living here, I admit that I got overwhelmed by all the new stuff. I always make plans to visit the "old stuff" (Golden Nugget, Circus Circus, Sahara) but seem to always catch myself in (Cosmo, City Center, Wynn).

My wife doesnt help either. She has been living here for over 10 years and her saying is... "whats the point in visiting the old places"? "If Im getting dressed up to go to the strip, it better be somewhere extremely nice" On top of that when friends and relatives come to visit, they want to see the newest attractions. Pretty much anything built after the Luxor.

I guess I am on my own. At least my daughter wants to go to the top of the Stratosphere this weekend.

Yes, LV caters to this crowd von..your age group, not us oldies but goodies.

You enjoy this weekend, the view from the observation deck on the Strat is amazing...also, if you can, the restaurant on Level 107, Top of the World, fine dining, excellent food but very pricey, and it revolves and the views from inside that place, especially at dusk ....are simply breathtaking.
