Is there a public beach area at Lake Mead?

Yep, it is called Boulder Beach. There is a small per car gate fee unless you have an annual parks pass. The beach is a little bit rocky in places, but it is a fun afternoon trip.

Wear water shoes. Those rocks hurt. And don't slip. Something that provides shade would help too.

Not to mention eight inch Tsunami waves, rogue coolers, rabid carp, and old guys in speedos.

are there places/secret spots where you can just drive up, park and walk to an area that is fairly nice with less crowds? just looking for some scenery and a nice big rock to jump off of when I go swimming. the less crowded the better.
thanks

Yes, but you can't get there from here.

With over 500 miles of shoreline there are lots of good spots for boaters, but only a few you can drive to, and with the water level as low as it is things have changed drastically. So be sure to ask the Park Rangers about conditions wherever you decide to go. There are several dirt roads leading to coves from the North Shore Road, and some from U.S. 93 on the Arizona side. Here is good map.

The gray and white double lines are paved roads, and the double broken lines are dirt roads. I think the single broken lines are Jeep trails, as hiking trails seem to be dots. You do have to be careful on dirt roads that you don't get hung up, and when it rains, flash floods are killers. Luckily it (almost) never rains ...well, except during the summer Monsoon season right when you want to go swimming.
