It sounds to me like the pump in the dishwasher needs to be primed. Having sat for many years, it is probably dry.

I would have to agree that this is the most likely problem.

And don't think it's only a rookie mistake. I've installed hundreds of disposals without a problem.

Two years ago I installed a new one in my kitchen and it worked fine but my dishwasher didn't drain. I checked for a kink in the line and could not find one. I removed the drain line and checked for blockage and could not find any.

I removed the disposal to check it for blockage and saw that I forgot to remove the knockout plug. Punched it through and re-installed everything and it worked great.

I removed the clamp at the white hose, and I am assuming that is not where the plug would be? But I cannot remove the black part closer to the disposal, although there was a clamp there ( I removed it already in the picture)...is that glued on? Sorry, dumb blonde here...

You did it right, that black hose needs to come off right where it connects to the disposal, they can be a bugger. try to pry or wedge a flat head screwdriver under the lip and circle it...while twisting (back and forth) the black rubber hose with your other hand if possible.

Please don't stab yourself while doing this, lol.

Well that is too bad it wasn't as easy a fix as that.

Google reviews have been the most useful tool to find vendors for me. If nobody gives you any first hand suggestions, check out the appliance repair reviews here. Looks like Maytag Washer Dryer Repair, Kenmore Washer, Whirlpool Dryers & Maytag Washers for Sale in Los Angeles and Las Vegas Appliance Repair | Appliance Repair Experts | (702) 515-1515 came out on top with the most positive reviews (4.75 stars average for each).

Yes, bummer But I appreciate all the great help I remember getting overwhelmed trying to find a handyman here in town a while back. I dread the thought of trying to weed out all the scammers again. Was really hoping someone could just throw out a name. But thanks again!
