I'll be in Las Vegas for a few days over the July 4th weekend, and I really wanted to take a hike or drive up to a location where I can see the bright lights of the valley.

Can anyone recommend a great area that is not too far from Henderson and within a manageable time frame? I'm originally from KC, so needless to say we don't have the luxury of hiking or driving up.... anything!

Also, we're staying at the GVR, and plan to take a look around Henderson and Summerlin. I've been a lurker on this forum for a long time, and can't wait to see what Vegas is like off the strip. This will be my 5th trip to Vegas, and I'm excited to see Vegas from a different perspective. Who knows? Vegas could be home in the future!

I live in Henderson and noticed a reallllllllllly groovy view of the strip right at the entrance of 515 South @ Horizon Drive.
I'm pretty sure it's exit 59 when your going North {towards Boulder City}.
Get off exit 59 make the left--then another left and get back on the 515, this time going south
Take a look at THAT view!
....and I see it every night when I go to work.
Gotta love that strip....sure is purdy!

The views are good from Sunrise Mtn. too. But the best view is from the top of the Stratosphere Tower. Or take a helicopter ride over the Strip. But the Stratosphere is the most spectacular of all and worth the price of the elevator ride. The ride, Insanity, has screwed up part of the view up there, but not that much...unless you're insane enough to ride Insanity.

Also, I imagine if you took the elevator to the top floor of GVR you'd get a spectacular view.
