I just want to say how unbelievably lucky we are to have Gilcrease Orchards here in Las Vegas. I've taken my son (and this week my parents who are visiting) there twice in the past month and it's just been a great experience: pulling carrots out of the ground, hunting for ripe tomatoes, searching the vines for cucumbers, eating ripe plums off the tree. Almost everything is $1.00/lb. I've come home both times and eaten the most delicious tomato sandwiches in the world...haven't tasted anything like that since I was a kid. Really grateful to have it here, especially since my first attempt at a Las Vegas garden didn't go so well and I don't have much of a crop of my own. Thanks Las Vegas for the wholesome, fresh, delicious food!

Thrilled to hear that you have found a "pick you own" type orchard in LV. One thing we had figured we would miss about New Jersey (and there isn't much!) are the abundant orchards and farm stands. This gives me renewed hope about finding fresh fruits and vegetables. Thanks for sharing the info.

Here is the link: Welcome

You can check the page before you go...lets you know what's available for the picking that week. Buzz123, no peaches. I missed the apricots, too, by about a week. There are lots of pears and apples on the trees but most are not ripe yet.

I've been researching this precise topic in LV and another venue for getting fresh fruit vegetables is *wait for it* Craig's List. It requires a little patience in searching and if you know what you want it gets easier (i.e. Buzz's peaches), but it is a really good resource. Someone on a LV farmer's market-related facebook group told me about it. We're moving to LV in a few weeks so this is definitely one way I'll be finding our food.

Gilcrease is nice, just got back from there. I was the sweaty guy jogging for anyone else who may have been there.

Don't forget about... the Farm I think it is called over on... Grand Teton that's where it is.

Look at me I even found a link to it. The Farm - LocalHarvest

It's kitty corner from Gilcrease.

We went to The Farm several times in the winter to buy fresh eggs (chicken, duck and quail), bread and other stuff they make. Delicious. Do they have veggies in the summer, Exaday?

They've got Okra right now. Beets and I forget what all else. Not too many veggies though. Seems like they had some squash or something as well. I go for the fresh eggs.
