Hi all,

I am a very frequent Las Vegas visitor, coming from Canada about once per month for the past 2 years, although I've been coming to Las Vegas for the past 10 years (although not as frequently as I do now). I mostly stay on the strip. I like to gamble (BJ), take in shows, dine, and pool. Sometimes I travel solo, sometimes I travel with GF or with friends. I am somewhat familiar with Metro LV area as I often have a car with me and have travelled throughout most of the Valley. My usual hotels are Bellagio, MGM Grand, Mandalay Bay, Aria, and Wynn/Encore. I play enough that about 75% of my total expenses are covered by comps.

The longest time I have spent in LV is one month.

I am planning on an extended trip/vacation for 3 months (January - March 2012). Some may say it's a bit long and that I may be suffering from a mid-life crisis, although I think I'm a few years away from that. My plan is to do all of the things I like as mentioned above (but in moderation), but also do lots of reading and research for a journal article regarding my profession that I am writing.

I initially thought that I would bounce from hotel to hotel, picking up comps here and there to lower my expenses. But then I don't really like the idea of packing/moving every few days. So, I next started to seek out longer term rentals so I would have a home base and did some research on the MGM Signature. I am looking at approx. 2K per month (private rental) with all of the associated ameneties that I like (pool, away from constant casino action, valet parking, balcony, fridge/burner/microwave/coffee maker).

I want to have the ability to access the strip fairly easily without a car, but at the same time not to be confined to a hotel. 2K per month is my approximate budget for accommodations.

I will also have my own car.

From what I have seen MGM Signature seems to fit all of my needs. Before finalizing things I thought I would post here and see if anyone had any comments or perhaps alternative suggestions.

Thanks

PS - Is it normal for a longer term rental, such as 3 months at the Signature, to charge the 12% hotel tax? I thought that this would have been exempt. Thanks again

The sig is a 1 block walk to Planet Hollywood, and the strip - so there is no issue there, If you can stay there for 2k a Month.. GOPHER IT!!!

That's a excellent deal to be so close to the strip and have all the access
parking is free, you will be doing a gaggle of walking thru the MGM for food, etc
but I see no real down side

Enjoy vegas!

I agree! Only 2 K a month? Play somewhere you can get food comps and you have it made. Sounds like fun.

There's nothing wrong with MGM Signature (that I know of), but I would be a bit concerned about being close to the upper limit of a budget. Money seldom seems to go as far in practice as planned on paper, and having a little reserve is always good policy.

You might want to check on some other places if you want a little financial breathing room. Platinum comes to mind (right behind Bally's) as one possibility. I think I read somewhere that studio units in Trump Tower start at $1600/month as another.

Aria was renting units for around $1200, but the wind noise there would probably be a deal killer for your needs, and the death ray around the pool area is a negative as well... which are probably the main reasons for the attractive rate.

I would think many Signature owners might be interested. If you are still interested DM me for more info.

It looks like anything over 30 consecutive days is exempt from the hotel tax.

I would try Palms Place and Vdara or Veer Towers. Also Wellington Meadows, on Sahara just west of Ft. Apache, right next to the Sahara West library since you're doing research (assuming it's not all on the internet) and you'll have a car. About 8 miles from the Strip but a lot cheaper--corp. furn. rental for $1500/mo. They have a really nice pool and a gym, plus it's adjacent to Peccole Ranch with its shade trees and sidewalks for long walks. But then, I'm partial to the West side...

I have no expertise in this area, but I read it to mean that 30 days or less is considered a hotel room stay subject to the tax while anything over is considered a lease of the condo unit. MGM Signature is not a hotel, it is a "condotel", so I would think units there could fall under either category.
