Hi all, I can tell you from personal experience that there are only two furniture stores who manufacture MOST of their items in the U.S. and that's Ethan Allen and Bassett. Everything else is made in China or some other third world country and although it looks really good, the laminate will start to come apart in a couple years, especially in the LV heat. Most of what you get at Pottery Barn, Cost Plus, Ikea and even the makers at RC Wiley, is pressboard covered in laminate. It's all cheaper for a reason. EA and Bassett are a bit pricier but will last for years and years. "You get what you pay for" right? Look for "dovetail" drawers in dressers and such. You won't find them in the cheap stuff. Robb/Stuckey had some nice stuff but they're gone. And if you want someone to actually come out and help you design your home, EA and Bassett will do that. Ask the salesperson what's really "under the hood" as far as "real wood" or not, and ask where it's made. If their honest, they'll tell you "offshore".
