So my wife and I live in a neighborhood on N Decatur and Elkhorn with the back of our house actually facing Decatur. And the ambulance station is on Elkhorn and almost to N Aliente Pkwy (about 1 mile away). Every night 3-4 times a night we are woken up by the ambulance running “Hot” (sirens and lights on) from the station going the nearly one mile to Decatur then up Decatur before it’s sirens are behind us (usually about a 3 minute ordeal). Now during the daytime I completely understand the need to run “Hot” with all the daytime traffic. But my question to you all is, Is the constant siren really necessary 1, 2, 3 am in the morning when (most of the time) there’s not another car on the street? I understand that there is an emergency and the ambulance needs the roads clear to get through but it seems they could adjust when to use sirens given the setting. Thoughts? Am I way out in left field here with this?

Left field? You're out of the ballpark.

I could slingshot a rock and hit that station. I have never been woken up by sirens before, even while sleeping with the windows open.

Maybe they leave off the sirens until they see your house?

Hmm after talking to our neighbors looks like it was brought up at the last HOA meeting and they're lodging a complaint. I was able to sleep through mortar attacks in Iraq but these dang ambulances are just relentless. One Of our EMS friends says that they are pretty bad in NLV about unnecessary use of sirens in the wee hours too. But eh maybe I'm just being petty and I should throw some earplugs in. I did grab a decibel meter from work that I'll try out tonight for kicks.
