Consider back in the day when people had to load up a stage coach and just went somewhere on faith. Now that was a serious decision. Why take a bunch of things across country? Why not just keep what you need and sell the rest?

^^^^ This.

First of all, give away or sell all of your wood furniture. We didn't bring much when we moved from the Keys. But what little wood furniture we brought was ruined in a matter of weeks as it dried out, split, and generally fell apart at the joints.

There's a reason most people around here own furniture made of particle board -- it's dimensionally stable. The only other way to go is to buy furniture made from kiln dried wood which has been further dried in desert conditions -- that's too pricey for most people.

Unless you ski, most of your winter clothes are probably best left in New England. The heaviest coat I own is a light leather jacket. That and a long-sleeve shirt are the most I ever need, and remember, I'm from an island just north of Havana.

That leaves electronic gizmos and housewares. Pair those down as best you can.

oh yea, we have no kids.
There is allot of condo's being built for rentals as well as allot of house rentals. Your husband should get his real-estate property license and I would think he would find something right away.

With our economy the way it is most of the people are renting here due to job loss's or losing their homes or both.

Good Luck

We are sort of in the same boat as the OP here. The only difference is our work experience. Boyfriend is an IT manager for a resort and I usually obtain clerical positions or retail merchandising type jobs.

We've wondered about the same thing. Its hard to get a job in another city these days so it kind of forces you to move there without one!

How's the market there for the general IT type positions (not software)?

We were hoping his experience in resort/hospitality would be an asset considering all the hotels in the area.

IT here is more concerned with experience in the CASINO Industry......simple resort or hospitality indrustry still takes a back seat.

Because Vegas is a transited city, many employers don't take you serious. I moved there back in 2000 and after 2 mos, I was able to get a temp job, then after 6 mos. I found perm employment. I was told that they want to make sure you are not going to leave 30 days after they hire you. I worked in office support.
