This is driving me crazy. Does anyone remember what the original name of the restaurant was that later became Tony Roma's on Sahara and 6th St.?

Don't believe so. This goes back to circa 1969-71. Used to take my date there, or meet buddies for a drink. Unless I'm misremembering again, I think there was a fireplace. Something we need a lot of in the desert.

I remember it as the location where the failed hit on Lefty Rosenthal went down in 1982.

That was built as Tony Roma's Buzz, around 1974 or so. I can't remember his last name but the guy who built it was an Asian guy named Ray, used to be an acquaintance of my uncle.

I know it was there in 1970-71 because I was unattached at the time and used to take dates there and hung out with another recently divorced buddy there. After that I got reattached. It became Tony Roma's later I think because according to Wiki, Tony's was started in Florida in 1972. The guy who built what is now Tony Roma's, if I remember right, was in a wheelchair; heavy-set guy I think. I don't believe they specialized in BBQ at first.

When Lefty's car got whacked, I was right down the street about a block or two ...and I have a witness that will swear I didn't do it.

I think the dude that ordered it was later buried in a shallow grave in an Illinois cornfield along with his brother.
