Since moving in last month we have spent every day at either Lowe's or Home Depot. We were talking to one of the cashier's at Home Depot while my husband was getting his vet's discount and she said that she was so surprised how few people knew that both stores give a 10% to vets. Hope this helps some of you DIYer's, Denise

Thanks for posting that DIY tip here Denise!

We have a lot of places in town that offer military discount, also, don't forget that in some places, you can get a locals discount as well. Usually entertainment places, some stores, local casinos, attractions.

Always ask, doesn't hurt

At Home Depot, only active duty, retired, active reservists, and disabled veterans can avail of the discount up to $500 per purchase year round. All other veterans can use the discount only on the four major holidays.

Any veteran with wartime service can also get an annual tax exemption in Nevada. The exemption can be applied to a veteran's vehicle privilege tax or real property tax.

I just ordered my DD214. It's going to make registering my car a little lighter on the wallet

Here is a list of Nevada's Veterans Benefits:

Do you have to show proof that you're a vet? Does anybody carry their DD214 around with them?

My husband served in Vietnam, was not a career soldier and just used his card from the VA as identification. He has never been refused a discount at Home Depot, unless it is for services with an outside contractor. In fact, just used it yesterday when purchasing new carpeting. Discount on the carpeting, not on the installation from their outside vender.
