Obviously the New York City Hotel in Las Vegas is exactly like New York City in New York State.

[mod cut-- thread moved, thanks!]
I've never stayed at NYNY casino but I've been to it during every single Vegas trip of mine- I make it a point to visit multiple casinos. I think it would be a HUGE mistake to only stay on the site of the NYNY casino. In short it kind of sucks compared to the other casinos within walking distance on the strip.

It's part of the MGM Mirage group, so if you plan on returning to vegas ever again I recommend getting the M-life card (their member loyalty program). If you gamble with the card at any of their vegas properties (MGM Grand, Bellagio, Aria, Vdara, TheHotel, Monte Carlo, Luxor, Excalibur, NYNY, Mirage, Mandalay Bay) you'll get offers at some of the better casinos that are part of the MGM group- the more you gamble the better offers you get. I don't consider NYNY to be among the better resorts.

Gambling advantages/disadvantages are the same throughout the MGM properties, but at NYNY you'll find lower denomination gambling, their high limit areas are going to be lower than the MGM Grand, Bellagio and Aria.

As for food, Gallaghers. Great place to get a steak without losing your shirt. I would stay away from chin-chin, the chinese food was lousy. I've heard good things about Nine Fine Irishmen but never dined there.

To be honest, other than Gallaghers I would NOT stay at NYNY casino to dine. Head over to Mandalay Bay, they have some good stuff like House of Blues, Burger Bar (GREAT burgers and get the zucchini fries), and Stripsteak was awesome. I'm not crazy about Mandalay's buffet, if you're looking for a good breakfast buffet go to Bellagio. If you just want a coffee and danish for breakfast, the higher-end MGM casinos (Aria, Bellagio, etc) will usually have a Jean Phillipe pastry shop- stuff looks pretty but also of very good quality. I'm addicted to their cheese danishes and rose macaroons.

The best casinos for quality food are Aria and Bellagio. Bellagio's buffet is a very good deal for breakfast, but for dinner and lunch I'd go to a restaurant where the food quality if better. The best Chinese food is at Noodles (Bellagio) and Jasmine (Bellagio)- both of these are on the pricey side, but kick ass better than NYC's Chinatown.

If you're looking for high end dining, Sage at Aria- I've gone there many times and I can't stop singing it's praises. Lemongrass is great for pan-asian food, I really loved their Pannang duck curry.

The Cosmopolitan had a very good french restaurant called "Comme Ça" and while I don't like Paris much, they had a decent brasserie called "Mon Ami Gabi".

Enjoy Vegas and eat well, life is too short for crappy food.

There's tons of food and gambling in NY NY at all budget levels, but why limit yourself when you are literally across the street (or a free, 2-minute tram ride) away from a whole bunch of stuff on that end of the Strip? It's like going to a buffet and saying "I'm ONLY going to eat fruit because the last time I came here I ate too much." See what I'm saying?

Agree with the above post.

It makes NO sense to me to be on the Strip in Vegas and never leave your own hotel complex, no matter which hotel it is or what "pact" you made. There are too many options.

Sounds to me that he/she just wants to gamble, drink and eat on this trip, after seeing the rest of LV on her other 8 trips. If it's gambling and winning(!) that you're looking for, OP, the worst slot payoffs are on the The Strip. You might want to look for more of a locals place to stay.

Even if you don't want to walk the strip, MGM (which has a much better selection of stuff to do) is right across the pedestrian bridge. Also, you can go next door to Monte Carlo, and they have a tram to Aria (and I think to Bellagio.) So even if you don't want to go tramping up and down the strip on foot, you would have a lot to do.

Even if you're going to stay faithful to the pact- which you should not- I'd pick a better place than NYNY casino to do it. I'd recommend changing your reservation to Mandalay Bay or MGM Grand (if your budget allows, stay at Aria or Bellagio), both have MUCH better/various dining options than NYNY if you want to vacation within only one casino microcosm.
